Beyonce Ft Lady GaGa - Video Phone

This lesson we where asked to write an essay on Beyonce's Video Phone which we watched in class and it was in exam conduction so we watched the video 5 times and then had an hour to write what we can about this music video, the main thing about this music video is that is very sexual to men.

This video has a lot of special effects in it to make it better and making it more attractive to the audience. At the start before they break into the song them us a strop effect of her walking with guys following behind her in smart suits. They also us it again in the video when she is singing and the camera is zoomed in on her face and you see a strop effect of her moving in front of her singing so they are using multi image effect. There is a part where the camera is looking at the top half of her body and she is dancing and behind is a delayed image of her moving making it look like they are in a line. Using special effects make the video more interesting to the viewers and are more likely to watch the whole video.
At the start of the music video they have used mise- en- scene to create a black and white picture of her walking towards the camera with some guys. This makes them look like they are a gangster which goes with the style of music. Throughout the music video they use mise-en-scene such as the guns which an again relates to the style of music. They use mise-en-scene to make the music video more attractive to the audience and to go with the style of music which is being played.
The camera work they use at the start of the music video is that they us a low angle shot which makes Beyonce look big and more powerful than everyone else, through the video they have another singer called lady Ga Ga which they use a high angle shot which makes her less important than Beyonce. They use a lot of cuts from each scene because there is a lot of action in the music video which they don’t want you to miss. By using close-ups of the singers shows the body langue and facial expression of the singers which makes the music video more interesting. The editing they us in the video is that they use multi able images and they us explosive shots full with colour. They also us a fade from different scenes so you can still see what they are still doing and also seeing the new image fade in from the background.
This music video is mainly about male gaze because it is all about woman and how good looking they are, but the men cannot touch the singer they can only look, this is represented when the guys have cameras on their heads which means they can look but they are not good enough to have. They have the man tied to the chair which shows that the men are weak were as the woman are strong and taking control, this also ties in with the gangster style of the music video.
